The Enduring Beauty of Islamic Heritage

Have you ever encountered confusion like, “Why do I never feel love and attachment for God just like other people do? Why should I follow Islam specifically among so many religions? Why should I worship only one God?”

Let’s try to find their answers using common sense. Many perceive Islam as a religion of restrictions—prohibiting pork, alcohol, and clubs—yet fail to see its uniqueness and how these differences can benefit them.

Islam teaches beautiful and sophisticated manners, making it a complete code of life distinct from teachings in other religions. The proof of Islam’s truthfulness lies in its well-preserved history, unlike other religions such as Christianity, which incorporate mixed elements of pagan gods or fabricated sons of gods.

Islam also teaches basic social manners that can prevent heartbreak. For example:

1. Social Boundaries: Islam teaches us not to become overly invested in others and not to expect perfection from humans, as only Allah is perfect.

2. Freedom: Islam teaches that we cannot force someone to accept Islam; our duty is simply to convey the message (dawah) with wisdom (hikmah) and allow others to use their common sense.

3. Sincerity and Intention: No other religion emphasizes sincerity of heart or purity of intention (niyyah) like Islam does. Practices such as hospitality, prayers, and truthfulness attract others. Islam encourages freedom of thought and reflection rather than blind adherence.

4. Positive Aspects: People often see the ‘don’ts’ in Islam and criticize it without recognizing its ‘do’s’. Islam allows enjoyment in various forms as long as it aligns with Shariah.

5. Women’s Rights: Islam provides women with a respected place in society where they can live, work, and engage in dawah activities, not limiting this work to men alone.

These are just a few aspects of Islam’s teachings. Islam is far more vast, deep, and satisfying. Worshipping one God is scientifically simple: apply common sense to the universe, and you will discover Allah. Once you experience this realization, you will be in awe of Allah and cannot help but fall in love with Him, obeying Him out of love. His love keeps you from haram, replacing what is lost with blessings.
